Job Description:
*Assists in setting work priorities, training employees and coordinating work assignments to ensure quality in workmanship and expedient completion of assigned jobs. Keeps superintendents and/or supervisors informed of job progress as well as any problems. *Locates and diagnoses plumbing problems. Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe or other problems from repairs. *May study building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations. *Provides a description of diagnosed problems to customer in terms that can be understood with options, as possible. Explains the features and benefits of each solution. Obtains agreement for services and/or installation before performing work. *Installs, inspects, repairs and maintains water, gas and sewer lines and systems. Clears clogged lines and repairs leaks. *Repairs and installs plumbing pipes, traps, washbowls, fittings, drains, sprinklers, backflow preventers, commodes, bathtubs, water heater, hot water tanks, disposals, water softeners and faucets. *Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools. *Cuts and threads pipe using pipe cutters, cutting torch and pipe threading machine. Bends pipe to required angle. *Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings and pipe composed of metals, vitrified clay and plastic, using hand tools and power tools. *Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder and plastic solvent and by caulking joints.
