University of Maryland Department of Residential Facilities Plumber Specialist – Position 100795 https://ejobs.umd.edu/postings/52102 Position Summary: The Plumber Specialist s a member of the Preventive Maintenance Unit (Plumbing, HVAC and Electrical) of the Electro Mechanical section in Residential Facilities. The Department of Residential Facilities is responsible for providing and/or arranging routine and emergency maintenance and housekeeping services for the College Park’s Campus’ residence halls, Greek chapter houses and recreational facilities. The Department is responsible for 48 residence hall buildings and Fraternity Row chapter houses with just over 2 million square feet of space. The successful candidate will have a level of technical expertise in plumbing performing a wide range of plumbing tasks at a Master’s level. Additionally the candidate is able to work independently as well as with other team members to complete tasks, resolve problems and perform work in a timely, professional and safe manner. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: • Performs plumbing tasks to include repair and/or installation of faucets, sinks, showers, commodes, garbage disposals, water fountains, water supply and drain lines, hot water heaters, dish washers and water supply valves. Cleans obstruction from waste and sewage lines. • Operates and maintains tools and equipment of the plumbing trade. Uses various power equipment to include: power snake equipment, drills and hilti guns. • Installs, diagnoses problems, repairs and maintains pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, gas, sewer and drainage systems according to blueprints, specifications, and plumbing codes • Lays out and assembles pipe systems and supports. Cuts, bends, welds and threads pipe. Inspects work site to determine presence of obstructions; plans installation and repairs to avoid obstructions. • Cleans work area upon completion of project. Maintains safe and sanitary working environment. Ensures compliance to worker safety laws through use of protective gear and proper ventilation. • Submits, as instructed by supervisor, building and mechanical room inspection reports. If problems are identified through this inspection, the incumbent is responsible for correcting the problem and/or reporting the existence of the problem to his supervisor. • Completes various administrative tasks to include work reports, work orders, log books, memos, tool and material requests, Prepares estimates of time, labor, and materials. Prepares reports reflecting daily operations and project status. • Provides guidance and training in plumbing work to other maintenance personnel. May have lead responsibility for special projects or special work period. • Performs priority and complex maintenance tasks on a scheduled and/or emergency basis. Coordinates with the appropriate trades shops all maintenance deficiencies that need to be coordinated for completion of work. As necessary, modifies work schedules and assignments to insure all essential or emergency maintenance needs are completed. • Serves as a member of the department’s Essential Service Personnel, Reports to work as requested, including overtime for openings, closings, major transitions and emergencies, and performs general maintenance/clean up tasks resulting from periods of inclement weather (i.e. snow, rain/hail storms, hurricanes, etc) Required tasks will include snow removal/shoveling. • Contributes to a positive work environment by behaving and communicating in a manner that gets along with customers, co-workers and supervisors. Qualifications: Six years progressively responsible experience in the plumbing trade. Maryland State certification as a licensed plumber. Valid driver’s license with less than 6 points.
